Rabbits can be great pets.

Rabbits can be great pets.

People don’t know what they’re missing out on when they keep rabbits in smelly backyard hutches. Having had house rabbits since 1997, I’ve seen these shy creatures develop distinct and memorable characters. One notable rabbit was Neutrino, a black Netherland Dwarf. Small in size, he had a huge attitude but was also affectionate. He loved being petted but he had definite opinions about being medicated or having his nails clipped. He lived with me from 2001 to 2008. When a friend gave him to me, he was three years old. His long life proves that rabbits can live past ten years old if given proper care.

  1. Our Irish setters didn’t like to be groomed, either. Dad ended up taking Maude to a place called the Bowser Boutique. I don’t know how they did it, but when he picked her up a couple of hours later, she looked great but not for long. Since she’d been cooped up in the salon, Dad thought it would be a good idea to take her for a walk by the creek. She jumped in the water and was dirty again within minutes. Dad figured it was still worth every penny since it meant he didn’t have to groom her.
